84 miles east of Portland on Highway 84, The Dalles occupies a bend in the Columbia Gorge on the “dry side” of the Cascades.

I start most of my rides from Kainos for three reasons:
Great coffee
Awesome food
Located in the center of town, but with easy parking a block away on 1st St.
*bonus reason: Kainos donates a portion of their profits to help kids abroad and in Oregon.
Kainos is quickly becoming a community hub in The Dalles — attracting a lot of movers, shakers, and dreamers with their excellent coffee, cool atmosphere, and great food. The centerpiece of their menu is a wood-fired pizza oven — and yes I sometimes go there twice in a day for coffee before a ride and pizza after!
The National Neon Sign Museum
This shiny, new roadside attraction was christened in 2018 after the city of The Dalles purchased the historic Elks Temple building in the center of town and gifted it to Vancouver, Washington neon sign collector David Benko — with the caveat that he create a tourist attraction
